Diemersdal is situated in the shadows of the Dorstberg in the Durbanville Wine area.

The location of the vineyards is particularly suitable for the making of high-quality wines.

It is one of the oldest farms in Durbanville and was granted on 18 September 1698 to a Free burger, Hendrik Sneewind, by Simon van der Stel.

Van der Stel gave him permission to plant vegetables and to sow grain. Hendrik died 15 years after the farm was granted to him. His widow, Anna Elizabeth, remarried about a year later to Captain Diemer.

Although it is not entirely documented, there is a strong indication that Sneewind was the first person to make wine on Diemersdal. The evidence is found on the inventory made by his wife on his death. This includes mention of 45 vats, wine testers, and a press vat.

The farm came into the hands of the Louw family in 1885. Since then wine making has always been part of the farm, although there has once been another reason for growing vines. Anna Louw made vinegar and communion wine. She was probably the first female winemaker in the Cape.
